What do you like about your role and the industry you work in?
There is never a dull day in developing and managing the LGF (Large Grocery Format) business and F&S (Fashion & Sports retailers) business. I consider myself technically minded and like to provide long-term solutions for my customers. I also enjoy the banter when on site, as well as being able to go back and see the finished project result. My role is most rewarding, and I am delighted to work with a team of forward thinking professionals.
What challenges are driving the retail sector?
A fast turnaround with no downtime for my clients is a key challenge. Most supermarket chains are focussing on destination shopping (such as smaller stores / petrol filling stations) and everything is very price conscious, more than it ever has been. How quickly the retail project can be completed in terms of a major refurbishment, and minimising the impact whilst a flooring is being installed, needs to be carefully managed to reduce the risk of losing customers to other retail supermarket chains.
Favourite Gerflor solutions and why?
The fast-track flooring solutions such as GTI / Attraction Technical Tiles, Creation Connect 70 LVT and Gradus matting for me are the game changers for the retail sector. These innovations lead the way over many other types of floorings, thanks to the speed with which they can be installed. They also deliver consistent savings for our customers when it comes to life cycle costs, as these solutions can be easily maintained. The Gradus MIAB (Mat-in-a-box) product range actually surprised me, on how this product performs in a busy retail store location, especially when it comes to the absorption of water, allowing the Retailer to keep their floors clean and facilitate ease of ongoing maintenance, whilst also reducing costs.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
I am a retired Rugby player and an enthusiastic and ‘mad’ Rugby supporter. I avidly watch Taunton and Bath Rugby clubs, as well as follow Somerset CCC when I can. I also enjoy going to traditional Farming shows, helping on the family farm, visiting National Trust properties, cooking (mind you I am no Gordon Ramsey!) and as you can tell, I also love eating out.
