“Hi…I am Wayne Andrews, and I am a one of the Key Account Managers for Sports flooring for Gerflor UK and Ireland.”
What do you like about your role and the sector you work in?
"I really enjoy working for a world leading indoor sports flooring manufacturer, as well as being part of a highly professional and competent team. I am extremely passionate about making sure standards and guidance are met by all architects and that end users are provided with the correct specification for ever individual sports project, which can vary depending on the facility and its usage within the education and leisure markets. I also really like the collaboration and trust I have with my colleagues across our business, to provide the specification industry with the most technologically advanced solutions. What challenges are driving the Education, Fitness, Sports & Leisure sectors?
"I would certainly comment that adequate funding to invest in updating education buildings, has been a big obstacle for many schools that I come across, especially those that are self-funded. This is a worrying factor, as there are still schools with sports floors down, which might not comply with current standards and are unsafe for pupils of all ages. One of the challenges within education sector, is the end user’s perception and desire for a sports floor which may be driven by tradition, this can potentially lead to a mis-specified sports floor, which can invariably be costly to the facility, this might not be fully understood until a full consultation takes place with the school. I have also found in the leisure sector, especially council funded facilities, they are struggling to keep open, which is a worrying factor for local communities and the general health of population. With Fitness areas, it can be challenging, sometimes, to ensure that the correct sports floor is installed, depending on the application and the equipment used in that designated area, but rest assured Gerflor have a variety of affordable solutions for all their needs."

What do you like doing in your spare time?
"I am a member of a local spa (so yes… I enjoy pampering and I won’t deny it!) and I regularly like to swim to keep that weight off! I love relaxing, and I am a keen golfer and member of a local golf club and have been so for many years. I am a very competitive person since being young, especially when it comes to playing and watching sports. I follow most sports including golf, football, rugby league and union, cricket, tennis, and most Olympic sports. I also like to take plenty of walks in the countryside and of course…eating good food when I am out (hence why I swim a lot!), as well as cooking at home (maybe I am not as good as the professionals...but you never know… one day you might see me on ‘MasterChef’…I can but hope!)"
