Gerflor receives environmental ‘A’ rating for its flooring
Gerflor receives ‘A’ rating for low environmental impact of its Mipolam product range
Gerflor has been awarded a milestone environmental recognition – a BRE ‘A’ rating – for its Mipolam range, confirming the low environmental impact of this leading brand of commercial floorcovering.
As well as demanding that products are recyclable, the BRE rating system checks processes during manufacturing, including air and water pollution, energy use, the environmental impact of materials and carbon emission levels.
The BRA ‘A’ rating, based on an assessment of the environmental profile of a product, is awarded by BRE Certification Ltd, a charitable organisation that researches and educates on matters concerning the built environment for the public benefit.
Hazel Cook, Contract Marketing Manager at Gerflor, said: “The BRE ‘A’ rating, once and for all, demonstrates that vinyl floorcovering has a similar environmental profile as other flooring materials, including linoleum and rubber which, hitherto, have claimed a less detrimental impact on the environment.”
To qualify for the BRE ‘A’ rating, Mipolam was assessed against specific performance criteria and awarded credits. A set of environmental weightings enables the credits to be added together to produce a single overall score. BRE rankings go from A+ to E.
Reduced energy and water consumption are key features in the manufacturing process for Mipolam. No heavy materials are used and the use of volatile organic compounds is restricted to levels well below legal limits. Like all Gerflor products, Mipolam floorcoverings are 100% recyclable and every Gerflor product site is certified to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard.
“Gerflor is a socially responsible manufacturer and takes this commitment very seriously. We are therefore delighted to receive the BRE ‘A’ rating,” said Hazel.
